BetPawa Launches Africa’s First Locker Room Bonus for Women’s Football

BetPawa has partnered with the Football Association of Malawi to introduce the Locker Room Bonus for the new Regional Women’s Football League. This initiative, the first of its kind in Africa, ensures players and staff receive immediate financial rewards after a win, with payouts processed through mobile money before they leave the pitch.

Over $157,000 will be invested across 270 matches, with each victorious team receiving MWK 1,012,000. A demo match at the launch event demonstrated the real-time payout system, reinforcing its effectiveness.

BetPawa’s Head of CSR & Sports Development, Raquel Puig, emphasized the importance of direct financial support in women’s sports, moving beyond symbolic gestures. The Football Association of Malawi views the partnership as a motivational boost for players and coaches, highlighting its potential to elevate the status of women’s football in the country.

The initiative aligns with BetPawa’s broader efforts to support football and basketball leagues across Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. However, its introduction in Malawi marks a significant milestone for women’s sports on the continent.
