Gambling Regulators from Botswana and Lesotho Sign Cooperation Agreement

The Gambling Authority of Botswana and the Lesotho Gambling Board (LGB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Tlotlo Hotel and Conference Centre in Gaborone, Botswana. The agreement establishes a formal basis for cooperation between the two regulators.

Through this MoU, the regulators will exchange training and capacity-building initiatives while jointly tackling illegal gambling activities. The agreement also aims to promote responsible gambling and protect vulnerable groups.

Peter Kesitilwe, the CEO of the Gambling Authority, emphasized the importance of collaboration. “This MoU will enable us to share best practices and experiences while working together to address common challenges,” he stated.

Senior officials from both regulatory bodies attended the signing ceremony. In his remarks, Thabo Mokoena, the CEO of the Lesotho Gambling Board, highlighted the agreement’s significance. “This agreement is a significant step forward in our efforts to ensure that gambling operates fairly and transparently,” he said.

The MoU sets the foundation for increased cooperation, including joint investigations and enforcement actions. It also facilitates information and expertise exchange while supporting joint initiatives to promote responsible gambling.

Both Botswana and Lesotho face challenges in regulating the gambling industry. The regulators expect this agreement to help address these issues and strengthen gambling regulation in both countries.
