Post-Brexit deal protects sovereignty and economic security of Gibraltar

Gibfibre Statement – Post-Brexit Deal Protects Sovereignty and Economic Security of Gibraltar

Following the UK Government’s political agreement with the European Union supported by the Gibraltar government—to safeguard British sovereignty, UK military autonomy, and Gibraltar’s economic future, Gibfibre welcomes the deal as a resolution to the final major Brexit challenge.

The agreement eliminates the need for checks on people and goods crossing the Gibraltar-Spain border, a move expected to boost Gibraltar’s prosperity. It brings long-awaited stability for the local business community, offering much-needed clarity on border operations, sovereignty, and long-term economic alignment with Europe. This is particularly significant for key sectors like gaming, technology, and communications.

With cross-border certainty secured, businesses now have the fluidity and confidence to increase investment and scale innovation. Gibraltar remains open, stable, and strategically positioned for growth.

The prospect of Gibraltar joining the Schengen travel area, alongside a bespoke customs framework, equips the territory to attract talent and capital—while maintaining its British identity. This agreement represents the best of both worlds.

Sean Randall, Head of Strategy at Gibfibre, gives his perspective on the agreement.

“This landmark political agreement between the UK, Gibraltar and the EU brings long-awaited certainty to Gibraltar’s post-Brexit future. The framework resolves critical questions on sovereignty, border management and economic continuity, opening the door to increased cross-border fluidity, deeper European integration and stronger inward investment.

“Working for Gibfibre, a leading provider of fibre connectivity and digital services in Gibraltar, I see this agreement as a foundational milestone. It ensures stability for thousands of workers who rely on a fluid border, safeguards British sovereignty and positions Gibraltar as a premier destination for innovation, gaming, fintech and digital infrastructure.

“I believe this deal will help attract new business, talent and opportunity across key sectors, and offers a platform to reinforce Gibraltar’s reputation as a secure, trusted, connected and forward-looking jurisdiction with clear access to both UK and EU markets.”
